About the Project
Touch Foundation wanted to collect healthcare data in an efficient and secure way, across its project locationswithin Lake Victoria regions, in Tanzania. The challenge was to find a solution that would allow Touch Foundation to collect and share data efficiently, especially in remote rural areas where there is limited network capability. Also Touch Foundation wanted to transmit data securely from Point A to Point B without breaching HIPAA Data Security Guidelines.
WS Technology reviewed Touch Foundation requirements and gathered additional information related to the project. In addition, WS Technology reviewed client’s Network Capability and its ability for support current and future needs of the project and used Agile Software Development Cycle to design and develop the required solution.
WS Technology designed, developed and implemented Mobile Application running on Android Operating System 2.3 or higher to collect data while allowing mobility of Data Scribers. The mobile application has the ability to work in both online and offline modes, crucial development that allows Data Scribers to collect data even when network connectivity to the Mobile App is not available. Once network connectivity has been re-established, data will be transmitted to the Central Database hosted at Client’s location in identified secure transmission. Now Touch Foundation has capability of populating its Central Database with field data about twice a day compared to previous setup that could take several days before researchers had access to data for analysis. In addition, the system provided capability to synchronize data between mobile applications and Central Server as well as Data Export through Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets.
